Last Tuesday I spent all day at Drexel Hill Middle School conducting the District 12 Jr. High Orchestra. What fun - 110 string students, selected from the area school filled the stage and after a big day of work performed in front of a sold out auditorium. While we did several fun pieces, Leroy Anderson, Beatles, and film music, the highligths were the Brandenburg Concerto no. 5 and Mozart Symphony no. 25 in g minor. The tempo was blazing fast - unbelievably exciting. I knew I was crazy, but the 110 studetns seem to take it after me. This is a photo captured right before the concert by Allison Linton.

My daughter, Mikaela, was in the orchestra (3rd chair cello) that day. The look on her face and the excitement that she came home with was truly rewarding. I want to thank you for not only inspiring these young musicians but also showing them how to enjoy their talent. In Mikaela's words "it was a great day and an incredible performance." Thank you again, her father.
I told the cellists that I am a cellist myself and I was partial, although I whispered it, so the others could not hear it. I love all strings though. It was a lot of work, but the intensity of the emotion and the performance were a thrill. Good luck to Mikaela.
